Forgot that I had a video of my vehicle in Iraq during our 2008 deployment. Our squad is on a mission to provide security for the engineers who are outside the wire building a weapons’ range. We scoped out a location where we could see the whole area of operation, and provide adequate support for them. The only problem we have is finding a way up. We finally found a way, and tried it but it was unsuccessful. I decided to back up a bit more and try again…Did I make it? Well, click play and see for yourself!

I don’t think I can stop listening to this song!!! It makes me feel so happy when I listen to it. Every time I listen to it, I just feel thankful that I am alive! The best part begins at minute 1:12 (or minute 2:27 in the link I’ve provided below).
If you do enjoy this song, it is called Don’t Ditch by Tiesto & Marcel Woods. Here’s a link to download it: http://www.dailytunez.com/2011/04/tiesto-marcel-woods-dont-ditch.html
Enjoy!!!
I like this quote. It can apply to almost anything; love, work, life…
Love because when you meet that person for the first time, you may feel a spark or not. But after sharing precious moments, and learning about each other, you soon find him/her to be one of the most important person in your life. You may not know what to do without them. And when you look back, you would realize how different your life would have been if you’ve never met him/her.
Work because it could be an object. When you first learn a skill or take on a task. You may not know the immediate importance. You will hate working long hours, and sleepless nights. You will begin to question the significance of the assignment, but when you look back at the work that you’ve accomplished, you’ll know the impact of it.
Life because every situation we encounter, we may not fully understand why it has occurred and may ask ourselves “Why me?” It is not until later on, when you look back, you realized that if that did not happen, you would not be where you are now.
Just like Steve Jobs said:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the wellworn path, and that will make all the difference.”
To summarize, you just have to trust your guts. Some how, and in some way, the dots will eventually connect.

So what do I do in my spare time? Well, I wear a black suit, drive a black car that shoots fire out of the back, and roam the nights fighting crime. Hahahaha I wish! I have been filming short films though. The Adventures of Justin and Fred is going to be a short series about two friends encountering many different, ummm…adventures. Stay tuned to what’s to come!!! Dot-com bubble burst. Low employment rate. Stock market downturns. Government budget cuts. So what is the solution to this volatile economy? Start your own company!!! More and more people, like myself, are starting their own companies. Myself and two other co-founders started Inkup, The University of Maryland’s FIRST printer ink refilling service. Here are a couple success stories I’ve found:
Hannah Altman, CEO of CoolZips. A 10-year old who overheard her mom talking about making a cool zipper pull, using beads & charms, for her husband’s sweater to make it look a little more fun. So Hannah said, “Let’s turn it into a business!” and CoolZips was born. Since then, CoolZips expanded to other items: Japanese erasers, T-shirts, watches, fun figurines, and much more!
Hart Main, creator & CEO of Man Can. The 13-year old came up with the idea after helping her sister make scented candles for school. He hated the girly smell of it and found a niche in the market, scented candles for men. He donates soups to the Soup Kitchen and Lima, and then uses the empty cans to pour his special scented candles in.
Nia Froome, founder of Mamma Nia’s Vegan Bakery. The 17-year old started her company after winning the business plan competition with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. She provides customers in the New York City area with delicious, organic, and healthy vegan baked goods. Additionally, she is using a company, Squarespace, that was started here at UMD campus to develop and host her website!!!
Although many start-up companies fail within the first five years, it is aspirational to see these young entrepreneurs take a chance and not let anything prevent them from succeeding. One of the many ways to turn the current economic situations around is to start up small businesses and create the jobs we need.
